Niagara Falls – US side or Canadian side?
On our recent trip to Niagara Falls, we were faced with deciding which side to stay on – US side or Canadian side? We were travelling with my parents who had already booked on the US side at the Comfort Inn on the Pointe. But after asking around, we were told the Canadian side is the way to go. After this trip, we definitely agree!
We rode in Mom & Dad’s rental car with them to their hotel. We packed our belongings for the night in a tote bag and back pack, and we set out to cross over to Canadian side via Rainbow Bridge on foot. Being from south Louisiana where the days have been in the mid to upper 90’s, it was WONDERFUL to set out for a walk in 75 degree weather!
This is the start of us crossing Rainbow Bridge on the US side. Before this we walked through part of the reserve and the views were pretty limited. You can see the observation deck in this picture that visitors can walk out onto for a side view of the falls.
Here we are nearing the other side of the bridge. It was an easy walk across for us. At the very end of bridge is where we entered through Customs and showed our passports. It was very quick and easy! And WOW, the views on the Canadian side were absolutely incredible as soon as we crossed over!
Full on views of the American & Bridal Veil Falls. Plus a beautiful rainbow coming out of the Horseshoe Falls. Something you really have to see in person! The Canadian side has so many great options for restaurants with full views of the falls. You can also find the famous Niagara Falls zipline and Skylon Tower on this side.
We stayed at the Four Points Sheraton Fallsview, which is connected to the casino. Our adventures led us to take the “Journey Behind the Falls” tour. It’s $20/person to walk down to the deck right at the bottom of Horseshoe Falls. You also get to walk through tunnels with a view from right behind the falls in 2 lookout points. Check this out!
It was breathtaking. Being super mature and all, I took the opportunity of using this gorgeous rainbow to make a DIY snapchat filter. Got some looks from the other tourists when taking this picture haha!
Aren’t those yellow ponchos hot? You need them, we got pretty wet being right there in the middle of the mist! Oh and we can’t forget the tunnels behind the falls! All along the tunnels were signs with the history of the falls and how the tunnels were made. Super interesting if you like to geek out on that kinda stuff.
Last thing to add on why I think the Canadian side totally rocked – the fireworks over the falls! We sat at the Horseshoe Landing patio and enjoyed some adult beverages before the fireworks started (get there early for the best tables). They’re done every night during the summer season. The show was short but spectacular! It was truly the perfect view and a great way to end our busy day!
